More Than 230 Companies from 13 Countries Attended the Central Asia Trade Forum in BishkekMore than 350 participants and 233 companies from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Turkey, Europe, South Korea, China and the USA attended the Central Asia Trade Forum hosted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It was the first-ever event of its kind that united small, medium and large regional businesses with a view to expanding their business relations, exploring international markets, and finding export opportunities.
President Roza Otunbayeva and U.S. Ambassador Pamela Spratlen opened the Central Asia Trade Forum and marked the event as significant for both Kyrgyzstan and the region. "International trade plays a critical role in economic development," said her Excellency Spratlen in her opening address. "Sustained economic growth in Central Asia depends on access to suppliers and customers. It's what made the Silk Road thrive for hundreds of years and it's what is needed today."
The Trade Forum gave business leaders from across the Central Asia region a chance to develop new relationships, discover new export opportunities, and establish new businesses partnerships. Over 20 companies from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, the United States and Turkey agreed on cooperation, joint production, supply of products and raw materials in the spheres of souvenir manufacture, garment and textile industry, construction, educational exchange programs, software development.
The general public was invited to attend a Trade Show featuring the participating companies. The Trade Show provided the opportunity for visitors and participants to establish new business contacts, demonstrate products and services, receive personal consultation from international experts, and seek practical advice from business counterparts and consumers.
The Central Asia Trade Forum was the culminating event of RTLC's nine-month effort to develop export partnerships among Central Asian companies.
