Key Constraints

  • Cumbersome laws and regulations governing exports and imports
  • Technical and tariff barriers that hinder enterprise competitiveness
  • Non-tariff barriers restricting market access
  • Insufficient awareness and regional dialogue on trade issues

 

RTLC Activities

 

RTLC will work with countries on the following activities:

  • Improve government capacity to assess impact of trade reforms
  • Assist to identify and eliminate non-tariff barriers to trade
  • Support liberalization of key service sectors (financial services, telecommunication and electronic commerce)
  • Support increased capacity of the private sector to advocate for trade reform

 

Expected Output

  • Simplified and streamlined tariff schedules
  • Reduced non-tariff costs to trade and transport
  • Reduced number of documents required for import and export
  • Improved compliance with WTO rules on imports and exports
  • Increased capacity of the business community to influence policy dialogue and advocate for trade reform
  • Increased regional capacity to coordinate trade policy between countries
